St. Joseph's Villa is currently recruiting for Counselor II roles to join the Villa Education Center. This position works under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Supervisor with assistance from the classroom teacher and instructional assistant in the Villa Education Center serving children with a variety of special needs. Working in a collaborative, team based model, the Counselor II works with selected students to implement individual lesson and behavioral plans. Work is performed using a systems approach that follows the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and other evidence-based teaching methods. The Counselor II will hold the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential, and will receive direct supervision from behavior analysts within the service for a minimum of 5% of the hours spent providing behavior-analytic services per calendar month, across a minimum of two supervision contacts, one of which must be an observation of service delivery. As an RBT, the counselor II is responsible for demonstrating professional conduct in compliance with the RBT Ethics Code, as well as competence in the RBT Task List skills.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 3:30pm
Hourly Rate: $22.10
Maintains sight and sound supervision of clients.
Maintains acceptable, appropriate, and helpful student interaction in the daily activities of the designated student environment (classroom, play areas, field trips, etc.)
Models appropriate behavior: punctuality, decorum, dress, stress management and conflict resolution.
Implements individualized academic instruction as written in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and program book.
Implements individual behavior plans as designed by the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and Clinical Team.
Attends and participates in scheduled staff meetings, classroom treatment teams, and trainings.
Attends scheduled RBT supervision meetings and initiates rescheduling with supervisor if missed to ensure that minimum supervision requirements are met within a supervisory period.
Assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing therapeutic recreational activities in conjunction with other staff.
Assists with administering and updating academic, vocational and functional assessments (e.g. VB-MAPP, ABLLS, Vineland, CALS, T-TAP) under the supervision of a behavior analyst.
Assists with functional behavior assessment data collection under the supervision of a behavior analyst.
Collects academic and behavior data and assists in ongoing student assessment
Informs classroom teacher when the student is experiencing behavioral or learning challenges or when materials are needed.
Provides regular input for the classroom teacher for the development of progress reports on the students.
Ensures that student’s work area is organized and prepared for the next day.
Performs weekly cleaning and organizing of the school’s environment as assigned.
Uses approved behavior management techniques to work with students in crisis.
Debriefs crisis and behavioral incidents with classroom teacher and behavior analyst supervisor.
Maintains documentation regarding students as required: incident reports, behavior plans and behavior data.
Evaluates work processes and methods and submits recommendations for continuous quality improvement.
Assists students with personal care and personal hygiene as needed, including providing assistance with feeding, toileting, washing, and diapering. May feed students via feeding tube.
Attends scheduled training programs for professional development that includes, at a minimum, trainings required by St. Joseph’s Villa and by regulatory and accrediting bodies.
Takes an active role in professional development by seeking clinical direction from behavior analyst supervisor and communicating need for more training as appropriate.
Accepts feedback appropriately and applies clinical and/or professional feedback from supervisors to improve performance.
Maintains documentation regarding RBT credential certification and initiates annual renewal process with supervisor within appropriate time frame.
Performs other duties as assigned, within the professional scope of the RBT credential.
HS required with experience working with relevant population and at least 21 years of age. BS/BA degree in education or a related field preferred. Experience with Windows, Outlook, and MS Word preferred. Experience with proprietary software preferred. Valid VA driver’s license with excellent driving record.
Registered Behavior Technician credential (active or eligible for reactivation), certified and searchable in the Behavior Analyst Certification Board online RBT registry.
