Overview

St. Joseph's Villa is currently recruiting ABA Counselors to join the Outpatient Behavior Treatment service and Villa Education Center or Dooley School. Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Community Based Services and Clinical Supervisor of In-Home Behavioral Treatment, the ABA Counselor (IHBT) delivers treatment services to program clients and their families within the policies and procedures of St. Joseph’s Villa. The ABA Counselor (IHBT) is responsible for the coordination of an overall written program of services, implementation of treatment interventions in relationship to Individual Service Plans for clients, and providing direct professional services to clients and their families.

 

The position focuses upon development of an individualized treatment and behavior plan and implementation of this service in a home-based treatment modality to ensure quality services to clients and their families. The treatment provided is based in behavioral and positive theoretical orientations, and considers intellectual, developmental, and emotional delays in the client population. The counselor works with selected students to implement individual lesson and behavioral plans in the Villa Education Center or Dooley School, serving children with a variety of special needs.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Knowledge and skill in a variety of professional therapeutic techniques and awareness of the needs of emotionally and socially delayed clients. Ability to make independent decisions and quickly establish an effective and therapeutic working relationship with clients and families. Knowledge of behavior modification and its application in the family setting. Mature judgment and a high degree of professional skill. Ability to access and utilize community resources, and support families in doing the same. Skill in maintaining professional boundaries. Self motivated to complete accurate and professional documentation. Ability to develop close working relationships with the program staff, St. Joseph's Villa staff, staff of related agencies, and public officials and other community representatives. Ability to appropriately use proprietary software. Ability to work within a team model of management. Mature judgment and a high degree of professional skill.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the development and implementation of service plans, objectives and methods necessary for providing effective services to individual clients and families.
  • Provides professional services to clients and their families in the family’s home or Villa Education Center on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Works collaboratively with their assigned clients’ family members and encourages family participation in all treatment phases and components.
  • Promotes behavioral, functional skill, communication, and social improvement through individualized treatment for all assigned clients
  • Maintains accurate individual case notes for all assigned clients that meet state licensing and professional accreditation standards.
  • Coordinates multidisciplinary clinical, educational, and medical services in support of the client and family to ensure efficacious and holistic treatment.
  • Participates and actively contributes to individual and group supervision sessions
  • Attends scheduled training programs for professional development that includes, at a minimum, trainings required by St. Joseph’s Villa and by regulatory and accrediting bodies.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in human services, mental health, or related field and one year related clinical experience with special education or children with developmental/intellectual disabilities required.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • Experience may be substituted for education at the rate of 1-1/2 years of related experience per year of education.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Outlook and Internet required.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and excellent driving record preferred.
  • Registered Behavior Technician credential (active or eligible for reactivation), certified and searchable in the Behavior Analyst Certification Board online RBT registry.
