Overview

St. Joseph's Villa is currently recruiting for a Part-Time Overnight (12:00am - 8:00am) Residential Counselor to join our Crisis Service team. Under the direction and supervision of a Behavior Specialist, Program Manager, or Clinical Supervisor, assists with providing supervision to clients in Crisis Stabilization Unit serving children ages 5 - 17 with behavioral and emotional challenges, and with cognitive or developmental delays.

 

All work is performed within a systems-based framework and a psycho-educational model. Work is performed collaboratively with and in support of other services offered by St. Joseph's Villa.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

· Knowledge of life skills techniques and appropriate intervention procedures with children with behavioral and psychiatric issues

· Knowledge of behavioral management techniques

· Knowledge of basic medications administration, vehicle transport, first aid and CPR

· Knowledge of appropriate methods of physical restraint

· Ability to work effectively in stressful situations

· Ability to appropriately use Harmony software

· Ability to work effectively with client population and in a team-based environment

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Assists clients with personal care and personal hygiene including feeding, toileting and bathing
  • Assists in creating a safe and healthy environment
  • Coordinates with culinary services for ordering and obtaining meals and food supplies
  • Prepares meals and snacks
  • Assists with escorting clients to locations and activities off the unit
  • Assists with transporting clients to off-campus appointments and locations
  • Assis clients with laundry
  • Prepares rooms for client admissions and discharges
  • Assists with providing sight and sound supervision
  • Assists with answering unit phones and faxing documents
  • Monitors supplies needed on the unit and assists with obtaining same
  • Represents the Villa in a positive manner in all interactions with families, placing agents and the community at large
  • Participates actively in staff meetings
  • Attends scheduled training programs for professional development that include, at a minimum, trainings required by St. Joseph's Villa, and regulatory and accrediting bodies 
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required. BS/BA degree in related field, preferred.
  • Six (6) months experience working with behavior issues and/or mental health diagnoses required.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license and excellent driving record.
