Overview

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director, the Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering effective, engaging instruction that meets the unique academic and behavioral needs of students in a supportive, trauma-informed environment. This role includes ongoing assessment, classroom management, instructional leadership, and direct supervision of assigned classroom staff.

Our students may include those receiving special education services or those with alternative education needs. All instruction is grounded in a psycho-educational model and delivered using creative, evidence-based strategies aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) and each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans based on student assessment data and academic standards.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with disabilities and varying instructional levels.

  • Administer and interpret assessments; track and report academic progress and behavioral goals.

  • Supervise and collaborate with classroom support staff including Assistant Teachers and Counselors.

  • Communicate consistently with families, guardians, and team members to support student development.

  • Utilize approved behavioral intervention techniques in a trauma-informed manner.

  • Integrate technology and alternative materials to enhance instruction.

  • Maintain accurate records including attendance, grades, and IEP progress reports.

  • Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.

  • Collaborate on extracurricular, community-based, and therapeutic recreational activities.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Current and valid Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement (English, Special Education, or related subject).

  • Minimum of one year of classroom teaching experience; experience in alternative or special education strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and educational technology tools.

  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and good driving record.
