Overview

The Behavior Specialist carries a range of responsibilities centered on delivering behavioral services to children and their families within a Crisis Receiving Center (CRC). This role requires a balance of clinical expertise, practical skills in managing a therapeutic environment, and strong collaborative abilities to support both children and their families effectively.

 

Primary Focus: Maintain a therapeutic environment, implement de-escalation strategies, and address immediate needs of children and families in the CRC program.

Methodology: Utilize the Crisis Now Model to manage a caseload and provide services within the CRC.

Responsibilities

  1. Behavioral Services:
  • Implement goals and objectives for children and families, ensuring their safety and engagement in various activities.
  • Maintain documentation and case records in compliance with state and professional standards.
  • Apply trauma-informed care principles.
  1. Direct Client Care:
  • Perform tasks such as client and house laundry, meal preparation, and program orientation.
  • Conduct initial intake screenings as needed.
  1. Family Support:
  • Discuss treatment progress and assist families with in-home behavior strategies.
  • Address concerns from parents or guardians regarding operations and incidents.
  1. Team Collaboration:
  • Participate in staff meetings and other essential program activities.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, case managers, parent support, and nursing staff to present a unified approach.

Qualifications

Education: Must be registered as QMHP-T or QMHP-C. BS/BA degree in Psychology, Human Services, or a related field.

Experience: Two years of related experience with at least one year of clinical experience with children.

License: Valid Virginia driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
